This book is a collection of poems written by my daughter, Kavya Chakraborty, who was fondly called Mishti. These poems are written by her over a span of 11 months, starting October 2017. She has recited some of these poems and won prizes in open mic events. She was also invited as guest artist in several spoken word poetry events held in Delhi & NCR during this time. Her prowess for writing shaped up when she was in her primary classes. She started writing short poems, short stories and journals when she was in her 3rd standard. At a very young age she had well-formed opinions about society, relationships and her aspirations. Most of her poems are the product of her powerful imagination, near real experiences, her struggles and the current state of society, all combined with her creativity. Kavya made it to YLAC (Young Leaders for Active Citizenship) India, an organisation which aims to increase the participation of young people in the democratic process and build their capacity to lead change. Unfortunately, due to health reasons she could not pursue it. Kavya was a kind and brave soul. As she turned 17, we were shocked to know she had bipolar disorder, borderline personality disorder and also suffered from depression. Yet she stayed motivated and in the process rediscovered herself. People?s appreciation for her poetry in this book and of her as a person is a testimony to it. All these are only stories now. Her life came to a sudden and tragic end on 22nd Aug, 2018.
