• Can you tell something about yourself?
My name is Jhimli Parui. I was born in West Bengal, brought up in Madhya Pradesh, and at present, settled in Noida, Uttar Pradesh. I am working in a UK based bank in Gurugram. Storytelling has been my hobby since childhood. I made my debut as an author with my book “The Shield Maidens.”
• How is your book different from others?
My book has been a swift-paced book, written in simple language. Having female protagonists along with a socio-thriller storyline makes the book a quite different one.
• Where do you get your information or ideas for your books?
It’s usually a state of mind and a surge within to pen down the thoughts.
• What was one of the most surprising things you learned in creating your book?
My journey from small poetries to a fully published book is really surprising for me. I learned many things during this journey. When it comes to creating a book, it is not only your efforts, but a whole team effort comes into the picture to make the book reach out to readers.
• What is your work schedule like when you’re writing?
I could not follow any set pattern or deadline. Well, the best times when I could sit down and write are the late-night hours.
• What do you think makes a good story?
A good story is when you are fully connected to it and could feel about the events or incidents that were described in the story. While reading, if a reader could go along with the author, then the story plays a winning part.
• What is your writing process like?
Just keep writing as and when ideas come through.
• What advice do you have for writers?
There is nothing called good or bad writing. It is all about thoughts and perceptions. Writing is heavenly. So, keep penning down the ideas and thoughts. Never let any idea go wasted. And the book creation is a complete team effort, which is totally on your publisher and distributor.
• How did this story occur to you?
The book is like a dream come true for me. There are sections in the book which I actually wrote years back. The story has been wandering in my mind for a long.
• What is the book all about?
My book “The Shield Maidens” is about breaking the glass ceiling. Everyone has his or her karma to play for the betterment of the nation. Some are born for a special role to play and to be a part of that role-play, you are into those circumstances by a fortunate stroke of serendipity. The story runs around three small-town girls, unknown to each other and with different skills and temperaments. The circumstances bring them together to be warriors. It is a story about being bold, courageous, and a human being with social responsibility.
